Wireless
The video introduces you to the concept of wireless mesh on Cisco Wireless LAN Controller. Using indoor mesh in our lab, you will learn the basics and behavior of wireless mesh AP. We will go through different topology and connection scenarios from a single hop mesh to multi-hop with VLAN propagation, Ethernet bridging, and bridging with FlexConnect.
Part 1 of this video covers basics of mesh AP and single-hop mesh
Topic:
- Root Access Point (RAP)
- Mesh Access Point (MAP)
- Bridge Group Name (BGN)
- AP Bridge Mode
- AP MAC Authentication
- Parent, Child, Neighbor Mash AP
- Multihop Mesh
- Wireless Bridge (Ethernet Bridging)
- Wireless Bridge with VLAN Transparent
- AP Flex+Bridge Mode

Mesh Channel Assignment
Hi Metha, Thank you so much for such enlightening videos on Mesh Technology. I just have one question on Channel Assignment on Mesh AP's.
In the 1st video of Mesh, I saw that you assigned Channel 48 to both the MAP's to establish a backhaul with RAP for packet captures. But if captures are not in picture, is it possible for two MAP's to establish adjacency with RAP using two separate channels. i.e RAP---MAP1 using 36 & RAP---MAP2 using 48 and if not, wouldn't that be a case of CSMA/CA sharing the same channel one at time and hence low data rates due to overhead ?
What makes MESH technology different from normal 802.11 CSMA/CA process ?
Looking forward to your prompt response. Thanks
Mesh Channel Assignment
RAP/MAP need to stay in the same channel in order to communicate so there is implication on overall throughput of backhaul. Some AP model do have dual 5GHz radio one for uplink and one for downlink each can be on different channel to get around this problem.
Channel Assignment on MAP's
Thanks a ton for your effective response Metha. I got the answer to my question.
strict Matching BGN
What s the use of strict matching BGN. If i was not enable that what will be happen ?
MAP WLC integration
How the MAP will found the WLC ? using RAP with the mesh Bridge name or with the bridge name ?. what is the use of Bridge name here ?
Shut port
Hi, I noticed you logged into the switch and shut the port with 'shut' but didn't invoke 'no shut'? How can the parent communicate with the Child if the parent port is shut? can you please explain this as both my RAP and MAP show 'neighbour' and not parent and child. Thanks
