Routing & Switching
The video picks up where we left off on the Basic NAT video. The more advanced NAT functionalities on Cisco router are demonstrated.
Topic includes
- Port Forwarding
- Destination (Outside) NAT
- NVI NAT (Directionless) (ip nat enable)
- TCP Load Balancing
- Multihomed NAT
Notes:
- Port Forwarding is commonly used when you have limited NAT IP but need to exposed multiple inside services
- Destination is commonly used when you do not want some outside IP to appear on the inside out your network. A common solution for IP subnet conflict.
- NVI NAT is commonly used to provide additional flexibility in defining direction of the NAT through ACL.
- TCP Load Balancing, although rarely used due to its lack of knowledge of inside service availability, is another good demonstration of the power of NAT
- Multihomed NAT is a specific example of a Conditional NAT, commonly used on an internet router having dual ISP
